New Delhi: BJP veteran L.K. Advani, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, and BJP MLA Kailash Gahlot are among several prominent voters who have been served notices during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi.
The notices have been issued over discrepancies identified during the verification of voter records, according to election officials. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office published the list of voters who received notices nearly three weeks after the draft electoral roll was released on August 31.
Why Were the Notices Issued?
The notices are primarily linked to two categories of discrepancies identified during the SIR process.
One is “no mapping”, referring to cases where a voter’s current electoral record could not be linked with the relevant previous electoral roll.
The other involves “logical discrepancies”, where inconsistencies are found in details recorded in the electoral database.
According to figures cited by election officials, more than 33 lakh electors in Delhi have been placed in these categories, including around 13.8 lakh under “no mapping” and more than 19.3 lakh under “logical discrepancies.”
L.K. Advani Among Those Flagged for “No Mapping”
Former Deputy Prime Minister and BJP veteran L.K. Advani has received a notice under the “no mapping” category.
His daughter Pratibha Advani and daughter-in-law Geetika Advani have also been listed under the same category, according to the voter records published by the Delhi election authorities.
The “no mapping” classification does not, by itself, indicate that the voter is ineligible. It means the existing record could not be linked with the relevant previous electoral roll during the revision exercise.
Manish Sisodia and Family Also on the List
Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also among the voters who received an SIR notice.
The specific reason for Sisodia’s notice was not mentioned in the publicly reported details. His wife Seema Sisodia and son Meer also appear on the list, with their records flagged for different discrepancies.
Seema Sisodia’s record has been described as involving a self-name mismatch, while Meer’s record was flagged for a parent-name mismatch.
Kailash Gahlot Also Receives Notice
BJP MLA Kailash Gahlot, who previously served as a minister in the AAP government, has also been served a notice under the “no mapping” category.
His wife Moushumi Mishra Gahlot and daughter Jahnavi Gahlot have also been listed under the same category, according to reports.
The appearance of political leaders from different political backgrounds on the list has drawn attention to the wider verification exercise being carried out across Delhi.
Several Other Prominent Names on the List
The list is not limited to Advani, Sisodia and Gahlot.
Other prominent voters reported to have received notices include External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, former Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, former BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, former Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and CBI Director Praveen Sood, among others.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and members of his family have also received SIR notices, according to the published electoral records.
Election Commission Clarifies: Notice Does Not Mean Deletion
Following public discussion around the notices, the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office issued an important clarification.
The CEO office said that receiving a notice does not mean that a voter’s name has been deleted or will automatically be deleted from the electoral roll.
According to the clarification, the notices are system-generated communications intended to address discrepancies identified during the SIR process.
The election authorities also stated that no voter’s name can be deleted without giving the elector an opportunity to be heard and passing a proper, speaking and appealable order.
This distinction is important because the notice itself is part of the verification process, rather than a final decision on a voter’s eligibility.
What Happens After the Notice?
Voters who receive notices can submit their response and the required documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Election officials will then consider the documents and the information available before taking a decision on the individual case.
According to the timeline reported by the Delhi CEO office, the disposal of the notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29, after which the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026.
A Large-Scale Electoral Roll Verification
The SIR exercise is being conducted across Delhi with the stated objective of ensuring that eligible citizens remain on the electoral roll while ineligible entries are identified.
The inclusion of well-known political figures among those receiving notices illustrates that the verification exercise is affecting voters across different sections of the electorate.
At the same time, the notices should not be confused with final decisions on voter eligibility. The outcome of individual cases will depend on the verification process and the documents and information considered by the concerned electoral authorities.
